Press Release No. 86/25

COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENT ASSURANCES CONDUCTS SPOT INSPECTION IN RI-BHOI DISTRICT

The Committee on Government Assurances of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Monday conducted a spot inspection in Ri-Bhoi District, covering key industrial and agricultural facilities.

The inspection programme included visits to the Poultry Feed Manufacturing Unit and RNB Cement Plant Ltd. at the Umiam Industrial Area, as well as the Government Poultry Farm at Kyrdemkulai.

The Committee is chaired by Shri Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, MLA, with members Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh, Shri Matthew B. Kurbah, and Shri Ollan Singh Suin in attendance during the inspection.

Speaking after the inspection, Chairman Shri Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said: “We began our visit this morning at Barapani, where we inspected the Poultry Feed Manufacturing Unit and the RNB Cement Plant at the Umiam Industrial Area. We then proceeded to the Government Poultry Farm at Kyrdemkulai. We are pleased to see that the quality and standards maintained at the Government Poultry Farm are on par with private farms. The Poultry Feed Manufacturing Unit has been operating professionally for many years, and it is encouraging to see the Government farm also maintaining high quality over the years.

This farm has the potential to produce more farmers and entrepreneurs by providing training to young people, including educated youth who may not be able to secure government jobs. Farming offers great scope and demand in the state, and we encourage young people to take it up as a viable livelihood. We also urge the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary to consider expanding the farm—not just to meet demand, but also to create more employment opportunities. The way the farm is being maintained is commendable, and we hope this standard will continue.”

Doctors and officers from the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, along with staff from the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat, were present during the inspection.
