Press Release No. 61/25 WEST JAINTIA HILLS LAUNCHES SCIENCE PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS In an effort to cultivate scientific curiosity and promote greater student participation in science, the District Administration of West Jaintia Hills under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Shri. Abhinav Kumar Singh has launched a visionary initiative title " Tynre Wa ka Science " which means "Roots with Science. " The programme is being carried out in collaboration with National Institute of Technology, Meghalaya in Sohra. The first exposure visit under this Initiative was conducted on 10th June, led by Assistant Commissioner Shri. F. Passah. A total of 30 student and one teacher representative from each school accompanied them. Among the participating schools were Government Girls Higher Secondary School,Jowai Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Jowai and Kiang Nangbah Government Higher Secondary School, Jowai The students will get the opportunity to interact with the professors and researchers at NIT, attend classroom demonstration observe laboratory setup and take part in career guidance program Speaking on the initiative, DC Abhinav Kumar Singh, stated that, as observed very few students in the district opt for science, through 'Tynrea wa ka Science"we aim to foster scientific curiosity and awareness among Higher Secondary students by offering them direct exposure to advance scientific environment and carreer opportunities in STEM (Science, technology, engineering, mathematics) fields. He added that a new group of 30 students wil be sent on the exposure trip each week. Once the exposure tour for higher secondary schools is completed, we will be extending the programme to include class IX and class X students who are at the stage of choosing their acedamic streams, the DC said. A move to help local Artisans, the District Administration is also planning a similar initiative in collaboration with National Institue of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Meghalaya to trained and impart training to the handicrafts or the artisans to help them upgrade their skills and make their products become more appealing and marketable, without losing its traditional touch. |
