ORIENTATION PROGRAMME ORGANIZED TO TACKLE EXAM STRESS AMONG CHILDREN

In an effort to address the growing issue of exam stress among children, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) today organized an Orientation and Sanitization programme at District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai for teachers and parents to help them better understand how stress affect children and how they can support them during exam time.

Dr. Sngewkmen Suja, Assistant Professor, Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) and the resource person for the session emphasized the importance of empathy and understanding in the classroom and at home. She highlighted that both teachers and parents play a vital role in the child's emotional and academic development.

She emphasized the need for teachers to pay closer attention to students who are struggling academically. She stressed the need for inclusive teaching strategies that will enable all students, especially those lagging behind, to keep pace with the rest of the class. She also encourages teachers to rename exams as knowledge quest, wisdom competitions to encourage students to approach them with confidence and curiosity.

Addressing the role of parent, Dr. Suja remarked that the parent is the first teacher of their children. She stressed that parents must recognize the pressure their children face, especially during exams and encouraged them to stay involved in their child's academic journey, she urged parents to foster a positive mindset by appreciating their child’s effort as much as their success.

She called for both teachers and parents to work together for a balanced environment that will nature both the academic and emotional wellbeing of students.
