Shillong, September 28, 2004: A Core Group on all matters of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing Applications (RSA) concerning developmental issues in the State has been constituted with the Meghalaya Principal Secretary and Commissioner & Secretary, Information Technology Department as the Chairman and Vice - Chairman respectively. This was informed by the Commissioner & Secretary, Government of Meghalaya. Information Technology Department

The terms of reference of the Core Groups is to enlist and suggest status and potential of GIS & RSA applications in the State; to suggest areas of priority applications that impact efficiency and delivery of services and governance; to delineate the roles and responsibilities of various agencies and departments in the State of Meghalaya and their relationships, nature of understanding/coordination etc in respect of GIS&RSA matters; to suggest guidelines/action plans, policy/coordination with outside agencies/and issues to help GIS and RSA implementation in the State; to finalise and screen RSA/GIS projects of statewide applications; to facilitate creation and maintenance of comprehensive spatial database for the state and to suggest organizational structures and any other matters relating to the GIS & RSA as considered necessary for effective delivery of Plans and programmes.
