OCTOBER 21-23 DECLARED DRY DAYS

Shillong, October 08, 2004: The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, has declared October 21st, 22nd and 23rd, 2004 as Dry Days throughout the entire District of East Khasi Hills, on account of Durga Puja Celebration.

All liquor shops, IMFL Shops, Bars, Hotels, Clubs, CS Shops, CS Bar, Outstill Shops shall remain closed on these days.

DISTRICT TUBERCULOSIS CONTROL SOCIETY RI BHOI CONSTITUTED

Shillong, October 08, 2004: To find out strategies for speedy implementation of the Revised National T.B. Control Programme (RNTCP), the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Mr. W.L. Lyngdoh, recently convened a meeting of the Governing Council of the District Tuberculosis Control Society (DTCS) in his office chamber, in which he is the Chairman.

Following the guidelines of the RNTCP, the meeting decided to get the Society registered under the Societies Registration Act XII of 1983 under the name “The District Tuberculosis Control Society Ri Bhoi Nongpoh”. The Society will have a maximum of 20 members, consisting of officials from other Government Departments, NGOs and the District Officer Tuberculosis Control as the Member Secretary and the members of its Governing Council will include the Chairman, two Vice Chairmen and the Member Secretary, with its registered office at Nongpoh. The meeting also decided to hold public awareness campaign in all parts of the District, through distribution of leaflets, while surveying and detection of TB cases will be done Block wise.

It may be mentioned that the aims and objectives of the District Tuberculosis Control Society is to achieve more than 85% cure among the New Sputum smear positive TB cases registered, to detect at least 70% of the estimated Sputum positive cases, to provide Short Course Chemotherapy (SSC) treatment to all TB patients for a period of 6 months and to ensure implementation of DOTs (Directly Observed Treatment Short Course) for treatment of all TB patients registered in the RNTCP.

RENEWAL OF S.K. OIL AGENTS/ RETAILERS

Shillong, October 08, 2004: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, has informed to all S.K. Oil Agents/Retailers under Urban and Rural Areas that their license for purchase/sale and storage for sale of S.K. Oil is due for renewal for the Calendar year 2005 under the usual terms and conditions of the Meghalaya Kerosene (Licensing and Distribution) Control Order, 1988.

S.K. Oil Agents/Retailers within East Khasi Hills District are directed to submit their applications through their respective Headman and Block Development Officer (Rural) in prescribed form which may be obtained from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, to be attached with a Court Fee Stamp of Rs.25/- alongwith the License and also renewal fee of Rs. 5/- only to be deposited in the form of Treasury Challan under the Head of Account “1456 Civil Supplies–800-Other Receipts (a) Civil Supplies, etc. license fee for the renewal of the same for the year 2005.

The application form should be submitted alongwith the name of Vigilance Committee members of their respective locality/village duly recommended by the Headman concerned.

All application should be submitted on or before December 10, 2004. No application will be renewed without submission of the above mentioned requirements, and no issue of S.K. Oil will be made if submitted after the due date.

SCHOOL BUILDING INAUGURATED

Shillong, October 08, 2004: The new school building of Umrynjah Presbyterian Primary (UPP) School was inaugurated at Umrynjah on October 07, 2004 by Mr. P.T. Sawkmie, Co-Chairman, State Planning Board, who is also the local MLA of the area. The school building was constructed jointly under NCLPR – 2001-2002 Scheme and SGRY – 2002-2003 Scheme at the total cost of Rs. 3 lakhs.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sawkmie expressed his pleasure and said that the people of Umrynjah would greatly benefit from the school with demanding education becoming more and more important these days. Students and teachers could now avail the facilities and conveniences of the annexe, he added. He also informed about the policies formulated by the State and Central Government to provide mass education, especially to the children.

He urged upon parents to educate their children and ensure that their children have a bright future. He also urged the students to be hard working and be obedient towards their parents and teachers in order to succeed in life.

Besides education, he informed that the Government is trying to uplift the economic welfare of the rural people by way of different Schemes generated through various Government Departments and urged the people to avail such Schemes.

Later on the day, Mr. Sawkmie distributed agricultural implements to the 4 Self Help Groups present in the area.
