PARLIAMENTARY HINDI BOOK PRIZE SCHEME

Shillong, October 25, 2004: The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs invites submission of books/manuscripts from authors writing original books in Hindi or translating books from other languages into Hind to participate in the “Parliamentary Hindi Book Prize Scheme” organised by the Ministry. The aim of this Scheme is to encourage authors to write original books in Hindi as well as translate into Hindi works of reputed authors on the specified subject.

For original manuscripts, winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize will receive cash worth Rs. 50,000/-, Rs. 30,000/- and Rs. 20,000/- respectively along with a certificate, and one prize worth Rs. 25,000/- and a certificate will be given for translation work.

Indian citizen, including employees of Central and State Governments can participate in the Scheme. However, Member/Chairman of Evaluation Committee and employees of Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs will not be eligible to participate in the said Scheme.

All books/manuscripts presented under the scheme should not have been written/published before January 1, 2002. Interested authors are required to submit their applications along with five copies of their book/manuscript to the Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs,8 Parliament House, New Delhi.

The application should be accompanied with two passport size photographs of the author.

HDR LYNGDOH VISITED WEILYNGKUT VILLAGE

Shillong, October 25, 2004: Meghalaya Home Minister, Mr. H.D.R. Lyngdoh, visited Weilyngkut, a village under Sohiong Constituency, on October 23, 2004. The purpose of his visit was to acquaint himself with the different problems faced by the people of Weilyngkut and to come up with a solution to these problems. A function was held on the occasion at Tlongumiam Secondary School, which was also attended by Officers from different Government Departments, namely, PHE, MeSEB, PWD, Health, Agriculture, Horticulture, Soil Conservation and Irrigation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lyngdoh expressed his pleasure to be associated with the people of the area. He said that there were many developmental works to be brought up in the area. Mr. Lyngdoh informed that the 33KW MeSEB Sub-Station would be set up soon at Sohiong which will be able to meet the power demand of the people. The 13 Kms Weilyngkut Road will be repaired, besides, Mawmaram-Mawmih Road with a length of 17 Kms too will be improved soon. A protection wall to reduce soil loss especially in the agricultural area will be constructed, the sanction of which have already been done at a cost of Rs. 27 lakhs. Mr. Lyngdoh also informed that a Police Station and a Community Market will also be set up at Sohiong soon. He added that there are many villages in the State like Weilyngkut which still need lots of developmental works to be carried out.

Memorandums were also submitted to Mr. Lyngdoh on the occasion.

KNOCK-OUT FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

Shillong, October 25, 2004: A Knock-out Football Tournament was kick-off on October 23, 2004 at Umsaw village by Meghalaya Home Minister etc., Mr. H.D.R. Lyngdoh, who is also the local MLA of the area. The Tournament, participated by 27 football teams from the area, is being organised by the Sohiong Unit Youth Congress Committee.

The opening match was played between Kreit FC and Pyndemdombah FC, where the latter beat the former in a tie-breaker.

RICE UNDER MIDDAY MEAL SCHEME RELEASED

Shillong, October 25, 2004: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh, has informed that Rice under Midday Meal Scheme for all entitled schools of the District for August and September, 2004 quota, has been released for which release order is being issued by his Office from 25-10-2004 to 11-11-2004 during office hours.

MUKTIEH INAUGURATES NEW SCHOOL BUILDING

Shillong, October 25, 2004: A new school building of the Umkoi Presbyterian Upper Primary School, constructed under the MP Scheme, was inaugurated on October 19, 2004 at Umkoi village by the Meghalaya Deputy Speaker, Mr. P.W. Muktieh.

In his speech, Mr. Muktieh commended the School Managing Committee for its sincere efforts and proper utilisation of the fund and at the same time urged the Managing Committee and teachers to always maintain a high standard of education in order to be at par with other schools in the District and the State. Underscoring the need for the people to achieve freedom for its citizens from ignorance, poverty and disease, Mr. Muktieh maintained that education is the primary need to liberate people from ignorance. He urged the students and people in general to work hard to make themselves economically self dependent and bring prosperity to the District and the State.

Mr. Muktieh handed the Work Order of Rs. 80,000/- to the School Management and Rs. 1,00,000/- for the improvement of the village playground and called upon the villagers to cooperate with the Village Durbar in any developmental project for their own benefit.
