PPI PROGRAMME IN GARO HILLS RE-SCHEDULED

Shillong, October 11,2004: Due to inconveniences caused by incessant rains in the three district of Garo Hills, the Pulse Polio Immunization Programme scheduled for October 11, 2004 in CHCs/PHCs/Villages/Schools/Anganwadi Centres, etc of East , West and South Garo Hills, has been rescheduled for the October 13, 2004.

Under the campaign, all parents are requested to bring their children between 0-5 years to their nearest immunization booth so that they can be administered with two drops of Oral Polio Vaccine. All village Headmen, organisations and social workers are requested to cooperate by spreading the message of the programme to ensure its success.

VERIFICATION OF TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMME NOT RECOGNISED BY NTCE STRESSED

Shillong, October 11,2004: In a notification issued here by the Joint Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Education Department, it is hereby informed that some institutions and private universities, not recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) are issuing advertisements inviting applications for admission to various teacher education courses, thereby misleading the candidates desirous of joining such teacher training programmes.

All such students are therefore, advised to verify the status of recognition of an institution for conducting a particular teacher education programme by the NCTE before applying for admission in a particular institution. The list of teacher training institutions recognised by the NCTE, the full text of the NCTE Act, 1993 and the related regulations are available on the NCTE Website www.ncte-in.org.

It may be mentioned that the NCTE has been established under NCTE Act, 1993, (Act No. 73 of 1993) with a view to achieving planned and coordinated development of teacher education system throughout the country, the regulation and proper maintenance of norms and standard in the teacher education system and for matters connected therewith. The provisions of NCTE Act, 1993 extend to the whole of India except the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

DISTRICT HUMAN RIGHTS COMPLAINTS AUTHORITY CONSTITUTED

Shillong, October 11,2004: The State Government has constituted a District Human Rights Complaints Authority to receive complaints on Human Rights violation in the District in which the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong is the Chairman.

Therefore, members of the public may file their complaints, if any, relating to cases on Human Rights violation to the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, so that recommendation for such course of action can be sent to the National Human Rights Commission and the Government.
