ICHAMATI CHC INAUGURATED

Shillong June 10, 2004: The Community Health Centre, Ichamati, consisting of 30 beds was formally inaugurated by the Meghalaya Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mr. E.D. Marak in presence of the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Donkupar Roy Lyngdoh, who also presided over the function, on June 9, 2004 at the CHC Complex, Ichamati.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Marak pointed out that the presence of a huge gathering indicates that the people of the area really need the CHC and are happy to take part at the inaugural function. He also said that the CHC, which is located at the centrally place, will now ease the problem of the people of the area and its adjoining area for they need not go to far away places like Shillong or Sohra for treatment.

He added that the government will try its best to provide the facilities required as other CHC but stressed that the hospital and the Department need the co-operation of the people to maintain cleanliness and smooth functioning of the hospital. He also called upon the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the hospital to be sincere in their work for the well being of the people of the area.

Mr. B G Momin, Meghalaya Minister for SAD who is also present on the occasion as the Guest of Honour, said that it was the initiative of the local MLA Dr. Donkupar Roy to construct and make the CHC functional. “Health care system in our State is not bad”, he said, despite many shortfalls.

Mr. N Lyngdoh, Meghalaya Minister of State Health and Family Welfare, stated that Health is Wealth, without which life is meaningless. Therefore, he called upon the people of the area to take full advantage by coming to the hospital for treatment and the presence of the laboratory will help people to detect diseases at an early stage.

Others who spoke were, Dr. B Lyndem, DHS (MI), the local MDC, Mr. T Dkhar, local Sirdar and Headman, Mr. M R Chaudhury, E.E. Health Engineering Wing and Sr. M Pale, Headmistress, St. Ursila High School, Mawlong.

Prizes was also distributed to the best essay writer. The vote of thanks was offered by Dr. S S Phanbuh, M & HO Ichamati CHC.
