Shillong, August 30, 2004: The Assam Rifles recruitment rally will be held at Polo Ground, Shillong, for all District of Meghalaya from October 27 to November 1, 2004 for the post of Rifleman (General Duty) and Rifleman General Duty (Driver). The Rally will begin from 6:00 AM.

Those eligible for enrollment must be between 18 to 23 years (relaxable by 5 years for ST/SC and 3 years for OBC) and having completed their Matriculation or Class VIII in the case of tribal candidates. For the post of Rifleman General Duty (Driver) candidates must also possess valid driving license.

For further details, interested candidates may contact the Zonal Recruiting Office, Shillong and collect a sample of the Application Proforma from the Office of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Shillong.

Shillong, August 30, 2004: An Inter-School Skit Competition-cum-Awareness Programme in connection with the Integrated Total Sanitation and Literacy (Revitalization) Campaign and Post Literacy Campaign was organised by the Addl. Deputy Commissioner (Civil), Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division at the Little Flower Secondary School Playground, Dadenggre on August 27, 2004.

Various schools under the Sub-Division participated in the skit competition based on literacy and sanitation. The students through their skits, portrayed that an illiterate person is both blind and deaf despite having eyes to see and ears to hear and how ignorance could lead to mis-understanding.

Shillong, August 30, 2004: 71% of electorate exercised their franchise to the 13 Wards of the Resubelpara Municipal Board which was held in connection with the general election of Wards Commissioners to Resubelpara Municipal Board, 2004 on August 27, 2004. This was informed by the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, (Election), Resubelpara.
