Shillong, August 10, 2004: The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh, Mr. W L Lyngdoh has informed that the celebration for the Independence Day at Ri Bhoi District on August 15^th next will be held at Pahamsyiem NSCA Mini Stadium, at 9.00 AM.

The Deputy Commissioner have also requested all the government servants, students and the public at large to join hand in the celebration. To enable them to attend the celebration, the district administration will arrange three (3) buses for transportation to and from the venue, he informed. One bus will start from Byrnihat, the other from Kharpati and Jyntru respectively.

The celebration on the day will also include distribution of financial aids to the handicapped children, awards to the Best Leprosy Worker and Best Leprosy Patients of the district for 2004-05. Among the best Leprosy worker, are Dr. Mrs. Grinilda Wahlang, Senior M&HO, Barapani, Smti. Spinsila Nonglang, HE, Mawlasnai, PHC and Smti. Prisitla Kharkongor, FHW, Tyrso, while the Best Leprosy Patient will be awarded to Smti. Tiol Nongkharai, Pynthor and Shri. Triang Nongrum, Umpohwin.

In continuation to the Independence Day celebration, the Officer’s Club is organizing a Musical Night in aid of the handicapped children to be held on August 17, 2004 at 6:00 PM at the Alpha English School, Nongpoh. The Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. D. D. Lapang will be the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Club is arranging donor’s cards for the purpose.
